Game 11 - Eagles vs Green Bay

Good morning my loyal subjects.

Due to a prior commitment, I didn't arrive at my customary destination --- to the left of MW Quinlan --- until approximately 5:00PM.

Before we get to yesterday's festivities…

Anyone who knows me knows I am a big holiday kinda guy. Love the holidays. Hell I exude warmth and the spirit of the holidays.

Okay, maybe I'm not quite decking the halls ALL the time but I very much enjoy this time of year.

But I am constantly amazed at the sheer lunacy and non-holiday spirit that many of my fellow homo-sapiens consistently display at this otherwise joyous time of the year.

For Exhibit A I give you the soldier-of-fortune-esque mob I encountered at the JC Penney store in Franklin Mills Mall.

I awoke bright and early at 5:45AM to make it to the aforementioned establishment by the pre-determined opening time of 6:00AM.

Now I don't know about you, but at this hour, I ain't exactly Kris Kringle, especially when you factor I didn't have any Joe yet.

I admit it, I am one to drink 1, 2 or 14 cups of coffee in a given 24 hour period.

Arriving at James Cash Penney's offspring, I encountered a surly group of consumers.

Within a few minutes, the doors swung open and for a moment, I was transported to Pamplona, Spain and I was running with the bulls.

And trust me, some of the people resembled bulls, if you know what I mean.

But it ended well with me making my desired purchase: ”The Complete Works of John Tesh,” and I was on my way home.

Oh, like you don't wanna borrow it to make a copy for yourself?

The line forms behind my brother Greg, a huge John Tesh fan if there ever was one.

Under Pressure…not

Was it me or wasn't it almost, I don't know… refreshing, no that's not the right word, but wasn't it different to watch an Eagle game without that annoying pressure of having to win?

This must be what it's like to be a Cleveland Browns fan.

With Liberty and justice…

So Packers RB Samkon Gado runs right through Eagles All World Safety Brian Dawkins for a TD in the First Quarter.

For those of you who didn't know this, Samkon was the third string running back at Liberty. THIRD STRING!

The question that begs to be asked now of course is ‘who are the two running backs that started ahead of Samkon at Liberty and are they available?'

By the way, there's a great restaurant in Philly that serves a delicious grilled samkon gado. They serve it with those little baby carrots and some mashed potatotes…mmm, that's some good eatin.

This Sunday on the NBC Mystery Movie…

Tell me you can't see this in the TV listings, circa 1975.

NBC Sunday, 9:00PM Nick Murphy, Private Eye — This week Nick tangles with Russian drug lords and Honduran hitmen.

Guest Stars: Lyle Waggoner, Merdith Baxter-Birney, Desi Arnez, Jr. and Charo.

The Eagles Punter-du-jour has a great TV Detective name.

Oh yeah, he stinks, too.

Rambling Observations

*Mike McMahon, for being a fairly tall individual sure has a lot of passes knocked down and/or hits officials in the ear, doesn't he? His delivery seems to be the main reason as he has a bit of a ¾ release.

*Why was the #1 FOX broadcast team of Joe Buck and Troy Aikman in Philly yesterday? I do not know when schedules are set for the respective broadcast teams but clearly the Giants/Seahawks game was the bigger game in the NFC, was it not?

*I hope someone shows Michael Irvin tape of the Eagles fans voicing their support for Packers TE Bubba Franks after he was injured and subsequently carted off the field. See, Eagles fans can be nice, just as long as you're not wearing a star on your helmet.

*Did anyone else hear sideline reporter Pam Oliver say “y'all” during a First Quarter report?

*Can someone please tell me why Reno Mahe is still gainfully employed by the Eagles? What exactly does he do to warrant a paycheck? Other than drop passes and do absolutely nothing as a kick returner, that is. You don't think it has anything to do with the fact he and a certain head coach went to the same college, do you?

*Did everyone catch the incredible tackling ability of the Eagles DB Quinton Mikell? Me neither.

*It appears that one David Akers is back in form.

*What exactly happened to the Eagles Defense and Coordinator Jim Johnson? The last time I checked Terrell Owens doesn't play defense so you can't blame him for their disappointing play this year. As for JJ, he seems to be second-guessing himself or is simply gun shy as clearly the number of times the Eagles have blitzed is down compared to years past.

*A very bad Roughing the Passer call on Trent Cole late in the Fourth Quarter. Pathetic call. It could have cost the Eagles the game but of course did not. Regardless, a simply horrific call.

*Just what was going on with the Packers and their inability to hang onto the ball? Why that's a perfect segue to the…

MQ Question of the Week

MQ ponders if the footballs were being sprayed with Pam whenever the Packers had the ball? Well it certainly appeared like it, didn't it?

The Bottom Line

Well a win is a win is a win. Yes, that much is true.

But how much can we really take from this W? They beat, barely for that matter, a downright deplorable Green Bay Packers squad with a future hall of fame QB in Brett Favre who is merely a shell of his former self

If this team does find a way to sneak into the playoffs, how far will they go?

I'll tell you, not very far at all.

Until next time.

Time's yours. Food's mine.
