Philadelphia Eagles Headlines

Philadelphia Eagles lose to Steelers in Pre-season opening, 38-31 but the secret Letter sent to TO has everyone guessing.
Jules Pilla 8-16th

It started out with a mistake by WR Greg deep in Eagles territory. It resulted in an interception and return for a TD. 7-0 Steelers. Minutes later the Eagles punted and gave up a punt return for a TD. 14-0 . That's how it started and the Eagles played up hill all night . Never quite coming back to win.

All in all it was a decent game for the first pre-season game. Any time there is 69 points scored in a game , it usually keeps your interest. The first unit offense looked pretty good despite the fact that TO was in Atlanta sitting down watching TV as a result of being sent home last week by Andy Reid. More on this in a minute.

Some stats from last night's game worth mentioning...

Donovan looked good passing 19 times and completing 14 passes for 132 yds He also had one TD pass and the early game interception.

The WR corp was an area everyone was watching. And I must say, you have to come away from that game pleasantly surprised by the WR's performances.

Greg Lewis had 3 receptions for 28 yds.
Billy McMullen had 4 receptions for 49 yds.
And rookie Reggie Brown, looking as smooth as a polished receiver, had 5 catches for 52 yds.

Great start for the rookie and a good start for the whole group.

Other notable player performances from the game are QB Mike McMahon had a strong performance in the backup QB role and rookie RB Ryan Moats rushed for 22 yds and 2 TDs on 6 carries.

But the undercurrent storyline was the LETTER the Eagles sent to TO. It allegedly outlined all of the behaviors that the Eagles say he has done that are in violation of his current contract. What does it mean? It means TO WILL BE BACK. Here's why. The Eagles are playing hard ball. It probably states in detail all of the specific behaviors (contract violations) that TO displayed recently. I'm sure not talking to Offensive coordinator Childress is one. You can name the others. We all saw the circus last week. The letter probably also goes on to say that if he continues to violate his contract in this manner the Eagles will take action. What action? Taking back $1.2 million of last year's signing bonus and NOT paying him for this year while they tell him to sit out and not be part of the team, ala Keyshaun Johnson. The Eagles have all the cards in this situation. TO has no recourse but to come back and act right IF, and that is a big IF, he wants any money this year. Afterall, irrational behavior can rule and result in just the opposite of what I'm saying.

TO is already showing signs of changing his position. TO had this to say on his website..." Terrell will return to camp and continue to display the work ethic, and on-the-field dedication that has made him one of the world's most elite athletes. For you the fan, and your continued support in the most difficult of times, Terrell plans to reward you with a season for the ages. Where small men succumb, great men overcome!"

You can read the whole article here...http://www.terrellowens.com/press/news.php?newsid=34

So the soap opera continues. It is hard to believe the roller coaster ride we have seen and been on these last couple of weeks. But it is about to STOP. One way or the other the circus is over.

My prediction, it's hard for me to believe what I'm going to say but... I think TO comes back and acts like a model citizen as if nothing happened. Wouldn't that be nice. Stay tuned. I could be way off base on this one.

T.O. must go! August 11th, Jules Pilla

That's right. TO must go. Are you on board yet? Or do you want to wait for more disruption of the team? Yesterday, we all saw it on TV. On all the sports stations, TO talking but not saying anything about his 1 week suspension . Allegedly, he told offensive coordinator, Brad Childress, not speak to him until TO talks first.

The Eagles issued a statement that he is "expected" back next week? The use of the word "expected" by the Eagles speaks volumes to me. What can it mean? Well, I suspect the Eagles will take some sort of action. I can't imagine Andy Reid putting up with this anymore. And certainly not the whole season. A couple things can happen. One , TO may be fined and that will set TO off even more and causeTO not to return to camp. Or, TO may return and have a very short leash and will be suspended again when he does something else the team doesn't like. But the most likely is this... TO can only return if he apologies first. Andy probably told him that he must apologze first or don't come back to camp. Hence the word "expected" .

Rosenhaus gave us a warning earlier when he said TO will be in camp but won't be happy. What a mess.

It's fairly obvious to me that he will not be playing for this team on opening day. I just can't imagine it happening. The Eagles have to disassociate itself from TO and fast. No player is that important to a team. TO must go! And in the end , that is what he wants. I heard the Canadian league is looking for some good players. That could be an option for TO. What team in the league will want to touch TO after this? And who is going to pay him what he wants? TO , it's been nice knowing you for one year. Now , it's time to say good-bye and let us get back talking about football.

Eagles are back at training camp. This time with a soap opera that leaves me cold...August 3rd ,Jules Pilla

Every yearat training camp time, I can truly say I feel good. Football is back and in a couple of weeks I'll be watching pre-season football. It 's not great football but you get to see the team you love and check out all the new rookies and hope that they are just better enough to win the Superbowl this year.

It helps you get thru the dog days of summer when the Phillies get ready to disappoint us again with their annual swan dive after making no moves to improve the team at the trade deadline. But I digress.

But this year is FEELS different. I usally have lots of conversations with other fans about the Eagles. The normal stuff , what are their chances, are other teams better, yadda, yadda, yadda.

But this year leaves me cold and I think I know why. I'm so tired of Terrell Owens and his agent DrewRosenhaus and all their talk about a new contract. It is nauseating to me. I loved TO, just like everybody last year but I just don't feel the same because of this contract issue. Before when TO smiled and had something to say to the media, I smiled too and enjoyed listening to him speak. Now when he speaks now I I feel like I'm listening to someone I have had a falling out with and now can't stand to see their face. All you hear is about TO and he is not why I love the Eagles.

The focus has been shifted from Football and the team's chances of winning a Superbowl to questions to other players about their opinion of what TO is going to do. So one of my favorite times of year has been taken away from me by this.

I thought a little about the effect of all this on the team and get concerned. I have questions but no answers.

Can Donovan and TO exist and play well together under these circumstances? I have issues with TO and I don't have to be around him ,so how does Donovan feel?

Will TO act up on the sidelines like last year's sideline "discussions" with Donovan after a rough series of downs? I 'm not so sure Donovan will allow TO to get in his face and give his opinions. Donovan is clearly the team leader and allowed that last year. Not this year.

How much will Andy Reid allow? I really don't think the Eagles will re-negotiate his contract.

If it gets ugly, how will TO react to sitting down or being fined? Something has to give. Reid and Banner will not re-negotiate.

Blah , Blah, Blah, TO, TO, TO.

You see what I mean. I'm talking about TO too. And not the Eagles. And that is what leaves me cold.

I know you are not going to believe what I'm about to say. Hey, I don't believe either. The EAGLES SHOULD CUT TERRELL OWENS TODAY and don't look back. I think the situation is beyond repair. And then take the money they save and give Brian Westbrook more to get him into camp and signed. I know I will take some heat for this. . Write me back with your comments.

Draft day 2005 is over.

Let's start with DT Mike Patterson. I like the pick. If I were to use one word to describe him it would be relentless. He never stops pursuing . And he penetrates the d-line well. Corey, Darwin and Hollis will do well to learn from this guy. He never takes a down off. He will be a fan favorite. He will become an impact starter. Mark it down. I would like to see him and Rayburn start.

WR Reggie Brown has decent size at 6'1" and 195 lb. He has 4.5 speed. The most important thing to say about Reggie is that he gets seperation off the line of scrimmage. He is an open field threat. And he can and will be used in Andy's famous reverses.

LB Matt McCoy. His 2004 season tells you everything you need to know about him. He played in 11 games and had 90 tackles, 9 1/2 tackles for losses, 3 sacks, one forced fumble and one blocked kick. Not a bad season at San Diego state. He is a bit undersized at 230 but has good speed.

RB Ryan Moaks . Speedy cut back runner with very good hands. He has a strong work ethic and will fit in nicely into the offense.

The rest...
